Holiday Party Planning Done Right

As we approach the vacation season, often awash with holiday parties, it got me considering how employees are rewarded. Definitely one of the chief reasons for hosting a company holiday party is to reward workers for their hard work and dedication, and there may be financial reasons as well.&nbsp ;

a vacation party does something else too. It creates a space for employees and management to come together not as employees, but as buddies. It provides an opportunity for people to get together and enjoy the company of the people you’re employed with without being concerned about the base line, which is something that might not occur much across the year. Sure there might be finance benefits ( see the article linked above ), but this is primarily done by making a bit of goodwill that goes a ways. It lets your employees know that you place a value on them and their work. So when I see that firms are deciding against doing a party because of the economy I stress about the message that this sends to&nbsp ; employees, lots of whom probably look forward to and expect some kind of year end celebration. When times are hard, which definitely is the case in several industries, it’s especially crucial to show employees you care.

If you usually do an extravagant celebration, naturally it’s comprehensible that you’d cut back a touch, but don’t do away with the party altogether. Do it smaller, faster and smarter. You can change the scale without destroying the event. If you routinely hire a star comic, as an example, consider using talent locally. If you usually do an indulgent meal, do a smorgasboard, or even a potluck. My point is do something. If you can afford to use holiday party entertainment, I’d definitely recommend it. Using a corporate comedian is a good way to get peoples’s minds off the economy for 45-60 mins and it gives your visitors a standard experience to chat ( and joke ) about for approaching months and leaves everyone feeling better ( just in time for the vacations ).
